Park No. 538 Natural Area, sometimes known as "Thillens," includes 28 acres of restored prairie and wooded riparian habitat. Soft-surface paths (mulch, grass, dirt) weave through the site, providing a tranquil space for visitors to explore nature and spot the many species of birds that frequent the site. Natural Areas are open from dawn to dusk.
The informal character of the park permits a wide range of uses for our patrons. The park is used predominantly for nature walks, trail running, and cross-country skiing. Park volunteers also conduct environmental service projects in conjunction with local schools and the Friends of the Chicago River.
For restrooms, visit nearby Chippewa Park, located two blocks east, 6748 N. Sacramento Ave during normal hours.
