Park 540 Community Garden

Description

All community gardens in Chicago parks are independently managed and financed by community members. This garden is managed by the Park No. 540 Community Garden group. The garden provides a place to garden in the South Loop neighborhood and a place of beauty for others to enjoy. It primarily serves the greater South Loop area and its adjacent neighborhoods (such as the Near South Side, Bronzeville, Bridgeport, and Chinatown) and is located in the southern part of Park No. 540 at 2401 S. Federal Street. There are a total of 28 raised beds, where ornamental as well as edible plants can be grown. The garden aims to build a sense of community, providing a space that is inclusive and welcoming, and offers beds to nonprofit organizations in the community, providing them an opportunity to raise and share produce and experience the rewards of gardening. The remaining beds are primarily maintained by individual households from the surrounding neighborhoods. The garden has been popular since it was established, and there is a waitlist of interested gardeners. Non-active garden group members are encouraged to get involved as garden volunteers.

For more information, to receive updates about our garden, or to sign up for the waitlist send an email to park540garden@gmail.com.
