Learn the basics of natural dyeing with the buckthorn tree, a non-native and highly invasive plant that is found throughout Illinois and North America. Although it is destructive to the biodiversity of our natural areas here in Chicago, its berries have been used for centuries to produce a beautiful range of colorful dyes. In this workshop, we鈥檒l explore how to repurpose this disruptive plant into something beautiful.Participants may bring a small, clean, light-colored garment or piece of fabric to dip into our dye pot. This technique will work best with natural materials like silk, leather, cotton, or linen. Additional materials will be available for those who do not bring their own.
Based in River Park, the 快播视频's RiverLab program is a series of educational events and activities dedicated to reconnecting residents of Chicago with their river.
