This Movies in the Parks series will feature 16 local films in parks across Chicago from August 25th to August 30th
For the 12th year, Chicago Onscreen brings the finest Chicago-made films to parks across the city. Hosted by the ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ's Movies In The Parks Series, this year's lineup features 16 films from a diverse range of genres, shown over the course of 10 screenings in 10 different parks. Screenings are open to the public and will be held for free from August 25th to the 30th. Every show begins promptly at 8 p.m., weather-dependent.
For a dozen years, Chicago Onscreen has showcased films about the city we love made by hometown filmmakers. Throughout its history, this series has screened 195 films in 63 parks, dazzling over 6,000 audience members. This year's series features 10 narrative films, 4 documentaries, 2 animated features, 12 short films, and 4 feature-length films. Each film sets out to reach the audience with new perspectives, bring unknown viewpoints to light, and explore what we thought we knew about our city.
Chicago Onscreen continues its mission of promoting Chicago-based filmmakers and their artistic creations. Filmmakers of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds were encouraged to submit their films for consideration in this year’s showcase. The final lineup was selected from over 100 submissions by a committee comprised of 12 ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ, Chicago Film Office, and Chicago-based independent film staffers.
Chicago Onscreen is a part of the ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ’s Movies in the Parks and the ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ’s Night Out in the Parks initiative. Night Out in the Parks is a year-round event series that features more than 1,200 citywide cultural and arts activities, including 160 movie screenings this summer.
