In response to the increased summer activity on the Park District鈥檚 existing pickleball courts across the city, plans include the development of three regional facilities with several courts and the capacity to host tournaments. The remaining individual courts in neighborhood parks will include new construction and converted tennis or basketball courts. The Park District is seeking input from the community to determine the best locations for the new pickleball courts. Patrons may provide their feedback online here.
The Park District offers nearly 80 pickleball courts at over 40 parks. There are currently 4 parks with courts dedicated for pickleball only and the balance are shared courts for either pickleball or tennis play. Pickleball is also offered at many indoor gymnasiums in Park District field houses which accommodates year-round play.
The new pickleball courts are funded by the City鈥檚 Chicago Recovery Plan (CRP) which earmarks dollars for neighborhood park improvements. Additional park projects funded by CRP will be announced soon.
