Join the Marquette Park Piano Trio for a free concert! Paul Bley, jazz piano player, was well-known as a master of the avant-garde and as a champion of new pieces in his loping, kaleidoscopic style. However, he chose to record many jazz standards throughout his career--many appearing on his early, self-titled releases--while still revealing the sense of freedom he would become internationally renowned for. In "Paul Bley's New Standards", our piano trio will attempt to tap into that same free-wheeling spirit and present a set of material that dances over the line between tradition and innovation, all of which Paul Bley recorded at least once in his long career.

This show will be followed by the Marquette Park Backbeat Project performing “Salute to the Skatalites"", a performance of the most famous material of the greatest band in first wave ska--the Skatalites.
