Description

Join the Marquette Park Backbeat Project for a free concert! On the island of Jamaica in the late 1950's, a brand-new beat was being made by local musicians. They found that, by combining the popular music they were playing with their skills as jazz improvisers, a new audience could be kept on the dance floor all night long. Ska has been through three waves and met international success, but for this show the Marquette Park Backbeat Project is taking it back to the style of the greatest band to do it first: the Skatalites. Come see the new Marquette Park Backbeat Project, now with double the horns! Free and open to the public inside the historic Marquette Park Auditorium, with seating provided.

This show will be preceded by the Marquette Park Piano Trio performing a set of music in a show called "Paul Bley's New Standards", an exploration of some of Paul Bley's earliest pieces and his favorite jazz standards.
