Description

Ping Tom Park Natural Area contains over three acres of native prairie and wetland habitat in the Chinatown community. Visitors can explore this natural area from paved paths and elevated boardwalks offering scenic views of the South Branch of the Chicago River.

In addition to maintenance conducted by the park district, Ping Tom benefits from the dedication and hard work of volunteers who collect and scatter native seed, plant native species, pick up trash, monitor vegetation and birds, and remove invasive species. Learn more about volunteer opportunities by visiting our Community Stewardship Program page.

Help keep wildlife wild, safe, and healthy by following posted signage and Natural Areas Rules and Regulations. For questions regarding 快播视频 Natural Areas, email nature@chicagoparkdistrict.com

History

After the demolition of Chinatown's only two parks to make way for the Dan Ryan Expressway, two full generations of Chinatown residents grew up without access to local green space. In 1998, under the leadership of one of Chinatown's most noted civic leaders, Ping Tom Memorial Park opened and renewed access to green space in this neighborhood.
