Nichols Park Natural Area
Nichols Park Natural Area is a small (0.3 acres) native prairie and savanna tucked into the northwest corner of Nichols Park. In the summer and early fall, the natural area features a wide array of wildflowers that attract and feed local wildlife, especially butterflies, birds, and bees. A crushed gravel trail winds through the natural area.
In addition to maintenance conducted by the park district, Nichols Park Natural Area benefits from the dedication and hard work of volunteers who collect and scatter native seed, plant native species, pick up trash, monitor vegetation and birds, and remove invasive species. Learn more about volunteer opportunities by visiting our Community Stewardship Program page.
